The biology behind beginnings

Understanding signals at the smallest scale.

At five weeks, fetal DNA circulates naturally in maternal blood. These fragments carry biological information long before anything can be seen.

At this stage, early pregnancy structures measure just millimeters - comparable to a poppy seed - yet fragments of fetal DNA are already circulating in maternal blood. These signals are extremely small, but real and measurable.

Early in pregnancy, fragments of fetal DNA circulate in maternal plasma. Present in trace amounts and surrounded by far more maternal DNA, these signals are easy to obscure and difficult to read.
Stori’s process begins by separating plasma from the collected sample - an essential step that removes background maternal DNA before analysis.

Using controlled PCR (polymerase chain reaction) amplification, the purified signal is strengthened across successive cycles. Each cycle doubles the detectable signal, allowing meaningful biological information to emerge from very small starting amounts of DNA.

Throughout the process, built-in controls monitor signal integrity and contamination. Samples are handled individually and tracked at every stage by an all-female laboratory team trained to work at this level of sensitivity.

The test detects Y-chromosome–specific DNA sequences present in cell-free DNA.

When these sequences are detected with sufficient signal, the result indicates male. When they are not detected, the result indicates female.

Results are based on direct biological presence - not prediction, estimation, or population-based inference.

Samples are processed and reviewed within a clinical laboratory environment.

Before results are released, they undergo verification to confirm signal integrity and consistency. Results are delivered securely, with personal data handled under established clinical standards and strict privacy controls.

Stori is built around early-origin biology - the first measurable biological signals that emerge in pregnancy, long before anything can be seen or felt.

Our work centers on reading these signals with precision and restraint. Using established molecular biology methods within a controlled laboratory framework, we focus on isolating true biological presence, verifying signal integrity, and preserving context at every stage of analysis.

Stori’s testing operates within a professional laboratory ecosystem shaped by decades of experience in early biological research and DNA/RNA analysis. Equally important is how this science is carried forward - with care, responsibility, and respect for the moment in which early information is received.

Every story begins here

Before answers, there is method.

Clarity does not come from haste. It comes from method, restraint, and respect for what is being read. Stori exists to approach early information carefully - measuring only what is present, verifying what is real, and communicating it with intention.

The smallest truths hold the largest futures. Complex science, translated into moments of understanding. Because biology isn’t separate from life. It is life - written at a cellular scale.

Early pregnancy at the molecular level

Early pregnancy is governed by molecular signals, not visible form.

Biological information emerges in pregnancy long before it can be observed. At this stage, signals exist at a molecular scale - fleeting, fragile, and easily missed. Stori is designed to work precisely here, measuring fetal DNA directly within a controlled laboratory process. The result is not a projection, but a biological signal - read carefully, without assumption.
